“It just so happened that oldies music was trending back at that time,” Gene said, “with shows like Happy Days and the movie American Graffiti. Soon after he got his first “real job,” Gene bought a bass guitar and a keyboard, and started teaching himself how to play– by listening to records – mostly Chuck Berry. He learned a lot about music theory and various instruments, but what he really wanted was to play rock and roll. In High School he played in the Concert and Marching Bands, and served as Drum Major. Gene started playing music when he joined the school band in Junior High.
